Free pattern - Ribbed Slouchy Hat

So, here's another FREE pattern. This time, for a ribbed slouchy hat. Who isn't absolutely crazy about slouchy hats or berets? And January just screams "I need my head warm"! :)

So, for this particular pattern, you'll need to know the following stitches:

ABBREVIATIONS

ch – chain
sc – single crochet
dc – double crochet

FPdc - front post double crochet

sc2tog – 2 single crochets together (decrease)
dc2tog – 2 double crochets together (decrease)
sl st – slip stitch

So:

Ribbed Slouchy Hat

Yarn: worsted (variegated) yarn/10 ply

Hook: 5.5 mm/ I hook

Gauge: no idea J (but I guess 3dc = 1 inch)

Start off by chaining 6 and joining into a circle.

Round 1: chain 3 (counts as 1^st dc here and throughout), 11 dc into the circle (12 dc). Sl st to join.

Round 2: chain 3, 1 FPdc on the same stitch, *1 dc + 1 FPdc on the next stitch*, repeat from * to * for a total of 24 stitches (12 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 3: chain 3, 1 dc on the same stitch, 1 FPdc on the same FPdc from the previous row *2 dc in next stitch + 1 FPdc on the next stitch*, repeat from * to * for a total of 36 stitches (24 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 4: chain 3, 1 dc on the same stitch, 1 dc on the next dc, 1 FPdc on the same FPdc from the previous row *2 dc in next stitch + 1 dc + 1 FPdc on the next stitch*, repeat from * to * for a total of 48 stitches (36 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 5: chain 3, 1 dc on the same stitch, 2 dc on next dc, 1 FPdc on the same FPdc from the previous row *2 dc in next stitch + 2 dc + 1 FPdc on the next stitch*, repeat from * to * for a total of 60 stitches (48 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 6: chain 3, 1 dc on the same stitch, 3 dc in each of the next dc, 1 FPdc on the same FPdc from the previous row *2 dc in next stitch + 3 dc + 1 FPdc on the next stitch*, repeat from * to * for a total of 72 stitches (60 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 7: chain 3, 1 dc on the same stitch, 4 dc in each of the next dc, 1 FPdc on the same FPdc from the previous row *2 dc in next stitch + 4 dc + 1 FPdc on the next stitch*, repeat from * to * for a total of 84 stitches (72 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 8: chain 3, 5 dc in each of the next dc, 1 FPdc on the same FPdc from the previous row, *6 dc in each of the next dc, 1 FPdc*, repeat from * to * for a total of 84 stitches (72 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Rounds 9-14: Repeat round 8

Round 15: Chain 3, 3 dc, 1 dctog, 1 FPdc, *4 dc, 1 dctog, 1 FPdc*, repeat from * to * for a total of 72 stitches (60 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 16: Chain 3, 2 dc, 1 dctog, 1 FPdc, *4 dc, 1 dctog, 1 FPdc*, repeat from * to * for a total of 60 stitches (48 dc + 12 FPdc). Sl st to join.

Round 17: chain 2, 1 sc, 1sctog, *2 sc, 1 sctog*, repeat until end. Sl st to join.

Round 18: sc around. Fasten off and finish off.
